Glem skolebøker, sats på YouTube!

Posted by: Ingjerd Jevnaker on: June 15, 2009

Posted by: Ingjerd Jevnaker on: June 13, 2009

Henter værdata fra yr.no.

Så. Trenger jeg paraply i dag, mon tro?

Crisis? What crisis?

Picked up an old Supertramp album at the amazing price of €1,00 in Berlin this weekend. The music is great – but the cover is even better: A perfect illustration of my own state of mind in the current financial downturn. Crisis? What crisis? Have you seen any crisis? Nope, didn’t think so.

Helvetica & Us Now: Films for the holiday?

Posted by: Ingjerd Jevnaker on: May 19, 2009

This week, many of us have some extra time off (Ascension day in most of Europe on Thursday), so why not spend some time watching free movies? No, I did not mean downloading Star Trek on PirateBay or browsing for free porn, why not watch something you can learn something from – which is free online?e

Us Now New technologies and a closely related culture of collaboration present radical new models of social organisation. This project brings together leading practitioners and thinkers in this field and asks them to determine the opportunity for government.

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which recently celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. It is now available to stream online at Norwegian broadcaster NRKs website.

Personal project # 1: Happy birthday dad

Posted by: Ingjerd Jevnaker on: May 9, 2009

Inspired by Ji Lee and his talk @Visueltdagene in Oslo on personal projects and why you need them, I did my first personal project this weekend (unless you include the time when I disassembled my old Ikea lamp?).

Where to start and what to do?

It is my father’s birthday on sunday. Today is saturday and it is raining. I am hung over. With nothing better to do, I made my dad a video-birthday-card-thing. I only had a tape with 15 mins left on it to record and found myself with an expired license to Adobe CS Premiere. iMovie and Garageband was what I had to work with + some toys on my desk. You can see it here, but don’t tell my dad yet, as his b-day is tomorrow, ok?

The end result? Not too impressive…. or I might as well say:

It’s crap. I admit it.

But so what? At least it is a beginning – and hopefully (for me at least), more personal projects will follow….

The Bubble Project

Stopped by Visueltdagene today – a conference organized by the association of graphic designers in Norway, Grafill. Heard an amazing talk by Google Creative Labs’ Ji Lee who talked about breaking loose from “the Matrix” and finding the self (youyou-time) through personal projects. But – my oh my – what projects!

Imagine if you had $3,000. Would you spend it on 50,000 speech bubble stickers? Well, that’s what Mr. Lee did. The speech bubbles were spread on ad posters across NY city – to give the people in the ads (or animals) a voice. Amazing! Watch a video on the Bubble Project from ABC News on YouTube to learn more – or simply visit the Bubble Project website – and prepare yourself to be amazed….

So, what will your personal projects be….?

Search for people

Interesting presentation by Jørgen Dalen from Halogen from last night’s UXnetwork meetup in Oslo. On the new developments in search technology and how people search is different from document search.
